R and B super star Usher Raymond is set to head back to the silver screen soon. Usher is getting ready to play Sugar Ray Leonard in 2014 film ‘Hands of Stone’.
The movie is a biopic which will have Usher re-enacting the life and times of Panamanian boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard. Legendary actor Robert De Niro will also star in the movie.
“You couldn’t find a more stylized boxer than Sugar Ray Leonard. He was an incredible motion guy, the way he moved around the ring, and I think my dancing will make it easier for me to pick up his moves. I’ve been working on familiarizing myself with the ring, sparring and just understanding how to move in the ring” says Usher.
Usher made his acting debut in the 1998 alien invasion movie The Faculty.
NBA basketball player Jason Collins has become the “first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport.” He made this revelation in Sports Illustrated Magazine where he wrote “”I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.”
“I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, ‘I’m different.’ If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand” he further wrote.
Jason Collins plays for Washington Wizards after being traded from the Boston Celtics. Former US president Bill Clinton has supported Jason Collins’ decision for coming out. “I have known Jason Collins since he was Chelsea’s classmate and friend at Stanford. Jason’s announcement today is an important moment for professional sports and in the history of the LGBT community. It is also the straightforward statement of a good man who wants no more than what so many of us seek: to be able to be who we are; to do our work; to build families and to contribute to our communities. For so many members of the LGBT community, these simple goals remain elusive. I hope that everyone, particularly Jason’s colleagues in the NBA, the media and his many fans extend to him their support and the respect he has earned” he said in his statement.
Other NBA teams and players such as Kobe Bryant have applauded Jason Collins for coming out publicly and admitting he is gay.
